Hurricane Isabel-Sept., 2003

OBX Hurricanes

Since landing here, we have seen a total of 14 hurricanes or tropical storms.  Most have been close calls and have caused very little damage.  During Hurricane Floyd, our entire lot was flooded while we were still in the house.  Below, are listed all of the storms that we have experienced and I have added a link that will direct you to a great site that lists, by year all of the Atlantic Hurricanes in total and individual tracks as well as many other pieces of information.  Our latest storm, Hurricane Ophelia, wasn't a bad storm as hurricanes go but we did get a lot of wind but not much rain. I have found that these storms are either rain or wind events but, usually, not both with the exception of Floyd in 1999.  Hurricane Isabel was, by far, the worst in recent memory by native locals here. We lost power for 6 days, the damage on the beach road looked as if were a war zone for weeks ans a new inlet opened up near Hatteras Village.
