Welcome to Outsidebanks!

Welcome to our web site. Enjoy your visit.

Other than Florida, the Outer Banks have been visited by more hurricanes and tropical storms than anywhere else in the U.S. At least, as far back as records have been kept. The other storms called Nor 'easters, in the winter, seem to cause more damage to property than the "Big Storms" due to the length of time they remain off the coast. This year, In early December, we had a very intense Nor'Easter that lasted almost a full week that resulted in large amounts of beach erosion and property losses. Many homes in South Nags Head finally were reclaimed by the sea and, most towns lost tens of feet of beach sand.

This is the natural progression on a barrier island. Beach is not eroded but relocated by the near shore currents. The loss of property regularly happens and should be expected.

As time allows, we will be adding content to existing pages as well as introducing a wider variety of subjects but all of them will be directly connected to this place we call home.

So, feel free to click on the navigation links to the left, or on the top of the page, and get a feel for the place and visit often as there will be plenty of updates in the coming weeks as this site has, and is, undergoing a complete overhaul with a new design and a new program. Some things may not work as intended, if you see any broken links or any thing that doesn't look right, please feel free to contact the webmaster and we'll get to working on a solution.
